Whatever phone I have, its Bluetooth name is always "Caroline 452".
Long live Radio Caroline. ;)
Im dating that mad scientist whom might be my future husband ????
My favorite Dolby song, and just one of the excellent tracks from _The Golden Age of Wireless_ .
17 years later I finally found the song from watching I love the 80's on VH1. Drove me nuts because all I could remember was what Thomas looked like, the microphone and "observe".
Does Dolby say "no"! at the end when he's looking up at the statue?
TDs music was too intelligent for general public digestion.
Timeless!
Still sounds great all these years later - never grows old - way ahead of it's time! <3
I'm sorry, I like this version better.
Now I know where the inspiration for Matt Smith's Doctor came from.
I never understood why he redid the song (this version). I have the original version from the cassette tape of 'The Golden Age of Wireless.' Apparently later albums as they were pressed had the new version. My only guess is the original version seemed more rock and roll with the harder drums and that was not coherent with his synth sound so he recut it. The comment below me mentioned how he was the father of steam punk. Interesting: as a 13 year old in 1981 watching MTV I never really noticed the styles. Now that I look back at those early videos in 1981-2 I see that coming out of the punk phase into the new romantic phase they did keep one thing: styling from the 1920s...the suits, the hair, the glasses. Look at those early 'Human League' videos. Black lipstick, short black hair bobs on the girls. By 1984 the 1920s/steampunk thing ran its course and you started to get into 1980s big hair and big sound. Always will be a Thomas Dolby fan! I remember MTV used to have something called the MTV Saturday Night Concert and he played it live in 1982 and it was in black and white. Very cool.
Lene Lovich?
Crazy underrated unknown-- Dolby at his best!
thomas dolby is underrated by today's music industry
Video pirates.
I always loved the song but not this version. The version on the original issue of "The Golden Age Of Wireless" was much less cutesy, less synthetic, far more rocking. Interesting that it was recut this way.
Still one of the coolest music videos ever.
Dang I wish they would show this on tv.
