Canadian born folk and gospel singer and later songwriter. Born: 26 July 1944, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Her family moved to the United States five years later, settling in central California. At age twelve. she landed her own radio show on KPER in Gilroy, California. Soon after, her family (mom and sister) moved to Hollywood. She was signed to Capitol Records to a 5-year contract in 1959, and recorded three folk albums for them. Billboard Magazine in 1960 said "Cathie Taylor is a young vocalist who handles folk songs in a fresh, modern style" and "Young thrush has sweet, pure vocal sound". She won awards from the Academy of Country Music in 1966 (Most Promising Female Vocalist) and 1968 (Best Female Vocalist). Her early career was managed by .
